| Chris Day |
Born January 1954 - Grammar School educated, and started my first disco at school in 1966.
I began operating my disco company in 1970, whilst working in a garage during the day.
I was involved with retail and trade sales during the 70’s selling everything from fridges to industrial machinery.
I worked as freelance station assistant for BBC local radio:
72 – 74.
Began working as a DJ in nightclubs in 1975, and worked for the Mecca Nightclub Agency during the early 80’s.
I did my first summer season as a DJ in 1979, and worked freelance until 1984, when I became a record store manager.
In 1985, I started a pirate radio station, and then took a job as a commercial copywriter in ILR in 1989. I became a production engineer a few months after this, and took over as a Commercial Production Manager in 1990. Between 1991 and 2002, I won over 50 awards for commercial creative around the world.
I started producing programmes for OMR in 2005, and also bought the “Flashback ‘67” exhibition which I have been renovating over the last couple of years as well as adding items of memorabilia, photographs, news items and artefacts.
I took the “Flashback” exhibition to London and Harwich in 2007, where I worked alongside BBC Radio Essex on their “Pirate Essex” event, and went to Harwich again in 2009 to reprise the event, and help promote the Richard Curtis film “The Boat That Rocked” along with the Pharos Trust and their lightship the LV18.
In 2009, I also attended Keith Skues’ re-release of his book “Pop Went the Pirates” in Cambridge.
2011 – I had hoped to show the “Flashback ‘67” exhibition a number of times this year - but have not had the time due to work commitments, however there are definite possibilities for 2012, so watch this space!
