Pop historian, quiz compiler and radio presenter Marc Elliott first developed his love of music in the very late 60s. Over the years he reckons he has spent ‘a fortune’ on records and has well over 12,000 singles, including  every record to chart during the 1970s, in his collection. He remembers the first 45 he ever bought as “Even the Bad Times Are Good” by the Tremeloes, costing 6/7

Nowadays he’s mellowed enough to admit that “If I hear something I like, then I like it, irrespective of who has recorded it”, but when pressured, lists Creedence Clearwater Revival, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Buddy Holly & Herman’s Hermits amongst his all-time favourites.

Too young (or so he claims) to have tuned into 60s innovators Radio London & Radio Caroline, his love of radio was kindled by Radio NorthSea International and re-ignited in the 1980s by Laser.

Marc regularly presented programmes in local commercial radio in Essex and Kent in the 1990s, but felt progressively stifled as “format radio” began to take its grip and more recently has channelled his energies into RSLs. He has also done voice-overs and commercial production.

Marc believes there are two types of DJs who enter radio. The first are those who love to hear their own voices. The second is those who love their music and basically want to let the music they choose and play, do their talking. Ask him which category he fits in, he’ll only give you the sort of stare that made Clint Eastwood famous in the “spaghetti westerns”.
